New Method for the Synthesis of Ru Nanoparticles Using Photoexcited Fullerene C<sub>60</sub>-containing Mesoporous Silica as a Catalyst Support

Abstract

A new photoassisted deposition (PAD) method using fullerene C<sub>60</sub> is developed. Photoexcited fullerene C<sub>60</sub> introduced within the mesopore of SBA-15 acts as an anchor to reduce Ru<sup>3+</sup> ions to the highly dispersed Ru metal with a narrow size distribution. Such uniform Ru nanoparticles (NPs) show high catalytic activity for dehydrogenation of ammonia borane than the sample prepared by conventional impregnation method.
