Abstract
A prediction method of thermal stress of concrete slab was developed. In the method, temperatures and thermal stresses in a concrete slab is prediected by solving one dimensional heat transfer equation and using 3 dimensional finite element method (3DFEM). The predicited temperatures were compared with the ones measured at various regions to validate the method. The thermal strains calculated with 3DFEM were also compared with the ones measured in test pavement slabs to confirm its validity. Relative frequencies of thermal stress for one year were obtained from the calculated stresses. The proposed method is able to apply to various concrete pavement structures under various climate conditions.
