Application of LiDAR data for forest structure analysis in broadleaved and conifer mixed forests has not been well established. The objective of the present study is to analyse the canopy structure of mixed forests by using airborne LiDAR data. We analysed the canopy structure using several indices derived from LiDAR point cloud; i.e. 95th percentile of height, mean height, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of canopy height, laser penetration proportion, and only fraction. The results revealed that 95th percentile heights, mean height and SD of height are closely related with the field measurements of stand basal area, mean height, mean DBH and SD of DBH. Therefore, it can be concluded that forest stand structure of mixed forests can be analysed accurately using airborne LiDAR data. However, further analysis of LiDAR data is required for a detailed understanding of forest structural complexity.
