Abstract

In the neuropsychological approach to schizophrenia, the standardized test battery method has become established as one field. We also analyzed qualitatively the cognitive dysfunction which seems to be characteristic of schizophrenia from the experimental neuropsychological point of view, investigated the relationship between neuropsychology and brain image finding, and examined the functional brain image, so that cognitive impairments in schizophrenia have been reported. Regarding approaches based on neuropsychological examination and cognitive experiments, it is important not only to pay attention to quantitative performance but also to conduct qualitative analysis. Furthermore, it is presumed that cognitive dysfunction has a great influence on returning to society and living functions, and progress of treatment (cognitive remediation therapy) for this will be expected in the future.
