Abstract

<p>After the 2010 massive volcanic eruption of Mt. Merapi, north of Yogyakarta City, Indonesia, the housing reconstruction program, REKOMPAK (Community-Based Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Settlement Project) included support for on-site rebuilding or relocation to resettlement sites called <i>huntaps </i>(<i>hunian tetap, </i>permanent housing). This paper considers the role of REKOMPAK as a support for housing reconstruction, and also as an initiative to reduce future disaster risk through residential relocation.</p>
