Abstract
In recent years, temperatures in urban areas have risen because of climate change and urban heat island effects. As one measure, cooling effects of sea breezes have attracted attention, but sea breezes cause high humidity in coastal areas. Consequently, this study was conducted to map the cooling load potential of business and residential buildings using summer temperature and humidity distribution maps in Hiroshima to propose future land use. First, all city areas are classified into zones using the local climate zone concept. Then, summer temperature and humidity distributions are estimated using the meso-scale meteorological model WRF with using the map produced in the prior step. Finally, cooling load potentials are calculated for business and residential buildings using summer temperatures and the humidity distribution described above.
