Abstract

For revitalization of local cities, not only tourists but also business travelers are important in terms of spending money for discretionary activities. This study analyzes activity and consumption behavior of business travelers to local cities. In November 2016, we conducted a web-based questionnaire for workers who had made a business trip to Utsunomiya, Maebashi or Mito cities within a year. It was found thatbusiness travelers who stayed in the city drank alcohol more than those returning in one day. Tobit-model analyses showed that business travelers with high income, self-employed, having alcohol at the business trip destination, and of later end time of the last activity spent more money during their stay. Also, for business travelers to Utsunomiya, their expenditure was estimated to be about 50-60% of that of tourists.
