Abstract

While the origin of a preface can be traced far back to ancient times, an afterword is relatively a new literary convention. After the years of amorphous usage, during the Song Dynasty it began to crystallize itself into the current form. The aim of this article is to follow the formative history of the afterword, a literary device that was imported into our country in medieval times.
