Experiment on elastic scattering of polarized protons from neutron-rich 6He isotopes at 200 MeV/nucleon

Abstract

<p>Spin-orbit coupling plays an important role in nuclear structure and reactions. It is of interest how an exotic structure of the neutron-rich nucleus affects spin-orbit coupling. To investigate this we are preparing to conduct an experiment on proton - 6He elastic scattering at RIBF @ 200 MeV/nucleon to probe 6He spin-orbit potential. In the experiment, recoil protons at laboratory angles of 55 - 70 degrees will be detected by a proton detector developed by ESPRI group at RIKEN. Scattered 6He particles will go through SAMURAI spectrometer for momentum analysis. To measure vector analyzing power a spin-polarized proton target is required. Such target has been developed by the CNS Univ. of Tokyo and RIKEN groups for use in experiments with RI-beams. In this presentation we are going to describe our setup and provide preliminary experimental results. The experiment is planned to be carried out in the coming summer.</p>
