In ultra-precision cutting processing, accuracy of nano-order is required. Processing conditions, tool types and tool wear state are factors that affect processing accuracy. These factors are closely related to the cutting force. In this study, for the purpose of obtaining basic data on surface roughness and cutting force in mirror surface cutting of soft metal by poly crystalline diamond tool, we performed basic experiments on cutting of aluminum alloy by changing cutting conditions such as feed speed, spindle speed and cutting depth. The obtained results are as follows. (1) The surface roughness become smaller as the feed rate become smaller, resulting in the surface state be close to the mirror surface. (2) The depth of cutting does not affect the surface roughness. (3) The principle force decreases as the feed rate and the depth of cutting decreases. (4) The thrust force increases as the depth of cutting decreases. (5) The principle force and the thrust force are almost constant regardless of cutting speed.
