Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand the local climate through the spatio-temporal characteristics of the air pressure. We have installed the barometers which can measure the air pressure at 4 different places in Matsuyama plain. On a sunny day, the air pressure generally decreases during the daytime because the atmosphere is heated up by the solar energy, while it in-creases gently after around sunset time. When the sea breeze flows during the daytime, the air pressure in the eastern part of Matsuyama plain tends to be smaller compared to other parts. On the other hand, when the land breeze flows at night, the spatial characteristic of air pressure is reversed . To compare the result with local rainy day, we have selected 8th August 2015, at 17:10 (precipitation, 13.5mm during the 20 minutes) as our target period. The air pressure suddenly increased in the eastern part of Matsuyama plain one hour before the precipitation. It may be due to the decrease of air temperature and the presence of thick cloud compared to sunny time.
