Abstract

This case report notes an attempt of novel experience-based program on the lecture of vibration engineering utilizing Nagoya University Disaster Mitigation Research Building (Gensai-kan). In the program, students experience three kinds of exhibition models relating to the vibration and mechanical engineering. Moreover, Gensai-kan possesses the base isolation system and can be vibrated freely by using the oil jack loading system. Students also experience the actual free vibration of a five-floor building both inside and outside the building. Finally, the theories of the experiences are explained. The goal of this attempt is that the students understand the vibration phenomena and their engineering applications effectively by the combination of model experiences, real building experiences, and theoretical explanation.
