Abstract

134Cs and 137Cs radioactivity was measured for river water samples from the upper Tone River during December 2011-December 2012. The radiocesium activity increased up 10 times higher in April-May during snow-melting season than the other season. There is a positive correlation between the radioactivity and water level, and turbidity except for the samples at the early snow-melt period with rain and the typhoon rain event. These results suggest that 134Cs and 137Cs radioactivity increases by snow-melt, but radiocesium at the snow-melt and typhoon rain events is supplied from additional source area in the river watershed.
