Abstract

To investigate whether physiological responses and subjective sensations during exercise were influenced by illuminating condition, heart rate (HR), oxygen uptake (Vo2), ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) and local fatigue sensation of the thigh (LFS) were measured under three different illuminations of 25lx, 180lx and 2000lx. HR and Vo2 responses were not different among the illuminations. RPE and LFS were different among the illuminations and the higher responses during the 25-lx compared to the 180-lx was found, but not to 2000-lx. In conclusion the intensity of illumination may modulate subjective sensation, but not physiological responses during exercise.
