Abstract

We conducted research on cargo bike race, Desaster Relief Trials, which aims to strengthen community resilience, at Portland. The race assume that it’s the day-3 after the M9 earthquake, thus the local emergency agencies asked cargo bikers for supply run across the city. We participated in the 30 mile race carrying water, egg (substitute for fragile medical supply), cardboard full of food and wooden palette. We’ve discovered that the DRT is a serious and meaningful event with a full of entertainment. Also, it affect everyday life of participants as cargo bike advocacy.
