Abstract
Layered-structured homologous compounds (ZnO)mIn2O3 (ZmIO, m=integer) have been extensively studied for a candidate of n-type thermoelectric oxide material. Most of the studies focused on m=5, 7, and 9, and trivalent-ion doping for In site. In this study, we investigate the detailed dependence of m(=1-19) and doping effects of Ba2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, and Sn4+ for In site and of Al3+ for Zn site. The sintered specimens were formed in a single phase of ZmIO (m=3-19) except Ba- and Sr-doped specimens and the densities reached more than 95% of TD. The thermal conductivity showed a minimum at m=5 and that of Ca-doped ZmIO was about 10% smaller than that of pure ZmIO. Carrier concentrations were changed by Ca- or Sn-doping, which, however, did not improve the power factor. The highest power factor, 5.18 x 10-4 W/K2m (@780 °C), was obtained in pure Z3IO.
