Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the width in grass buffer strips on trapping characteristics of soil and nutrient components. The results indicated the trapping efficiency of soil and nutrient components tended to increase with the width of strips in the range from 10 to 50 cm. However, the differential coefficients decreased with the width of strips. Also, the differential coefficients became lower than 1 in the range from 20 to 30 cm. In addition, nitrogen and phosphorus concentration of sediments in the downstream tended to be higher than that in upstream. It was judged that excess width was not effective to trap nutrient components. So, we concluded the suitable width of strips in intensive agricultural area of Japan was in the range from20 to 30 cm.
