Abstract

This paper proposes an application method of Gaussian filter to measured helix form data for elimination of pseudo roughness on tooth surfaces, especially, cut-off values of the filter are deeply discussed. In general, based on JIS B 0632, the method for decomposition of surface texture of machine elements is standardized. However, according to the standard, shortage of measuring range on the tooth surfaces occurs frequently in case of the measurement of tooth surface of gears, and it is difficult to filter out roughness data in accordance with the standards due to the problem. Thus, in this study, frequency analysis of a hobbed gear is carried out, and an appropriate wavelength, which splits the surface data between waviness and roughness, is obtained by the analysis. Finally, according to the derived value, the measured helix form data is conditioned with the Gaussian filter, and the method is validated by evaluation of the eliminated roughness data.
