- Analysis of Oxygen Transport Resistance in Catalyst Layer and Water Transport Mechanism in PEFC

<p>This paper investigated the mechanism for the hydrophilic MPL with carbon fiber to improve cell performance by measurement of oxygen transport resistance in catalyst layer. For analysis of water transport mechanism in the cases of adopting hydrophilic carbon fiber MPL and conventional hydrophobic carbon black MPL, a method of measuring oxygen transport resistance including the influence of produced water was developed by applying a limiting current method which has been used conventionally. The results showed that the hydrophilic carbon fiber MPL reduces the oxygen transport resistance through catalyst layer. This supports the mechanism propsosed in our previous study that hydrophilic carbon fiber MPL promote the discharge of liquid water from the catalyst layer.</p>
