Abstract

This paper aims to integrate a non-market strategy into the field of crisis management studies. Although previous crisis management studies have discussed normative organizational responses or resilience to crises, a theoretical possibility that corporate political activities during or after crises could contribute to the acquisition of compensation or institutional support from governmental bodies has been overlooked. Given the financial compensation might permit a company that has suffered from extraordinary misfortune to recover losses resulting from crises and establish a fund for a rebirth plan, a goal of crisis management should be an accomplishment of effective non-market strategy. In particular, this paper evaluates the effectiveness of “collective non-market strategy” (i.e., a collective corporate political activity or a collective political activity by companies and individuals). To discuss the topics above, this study uses a case study of a collective political activity of the association to protest against the duplication of income tax within the Empire, under the severe burden of international double taxation between 1914 and 1920.
