Abstract

Wave characteristics changes have often been focused on high energy waves due to necessity in design of construction or beach profile change. However, mild wave is the most important condition during construction on the sea. In this study, inter-annual change in mild wave and swell characteristics, including their trends, was analyzed under present and future climates using observed wave data and numerical projection of future wave climate. From the analysis, we found the appearance frequency of mild wave is lower and that of swell is higher along the Pacific coast than along the Japan Sea side coast. Also, it was found that the frequency of the mild wave is projected to increase in the future although there is uncertainty.
