Abstract
Development of numerical model for dynamics of mercury released into marine environment. Bottom sediments which are eroded and are re-suspended by flows can be transported and deposit on the sea bottom again. Mercury attached on the sediments can move through the same mechanism. In this research, long-term numerical simulation of sediment transport was attempted using particle size classification model in a coastal region including Minamata Bay and the Yatsushiro Sea. From the comparison between the measurement result of total mercury concentration in bottom sediments and numerical result of spatial distribution of fine sediments (cray), a possibility that fine sediments transported mercury from Minamata Bay to the Yatsushiro Sea was shown.
