Sacred forest is the forest type associated with the beliefs, customs and habits of the local communities living on the forest. Tourism is considered one of the suitable solutions of local livelihood replacement for poverty reduction in sacred forest. Yen Tu mountain is a sacred place with typical biodiversity reservoirs and cultural beliefs values in Vietnam. Religious tourism in Yen Tu with more than two million visitors annually becomes an effective livelihood solution for indigenous people. However, the construction of the road, pressure from pilgrims, bad behavior of tourism activities has led to serious impacts on unique native flora and fauna, for example Red pine ancient trees (Dacrydium elatum). The study discusses solutions toward sustainable tourism development in order to preserve biodiversity, cultural beliefs and still ensure the livelihood of local communities.
