<p>Suginami Ward, Tokyo and Kanazawa City, Ishikawa abolished the public school choice system and returned to the original one characteristic for the designated school system in 2015 after 10 year’s trial period. This article describes the results of interview and a questionnaire survey asking the impact on the school management generated by the abolition of school choice system.</p><p>First, the survey made clear that the part of the school choice has been continued with some restrictions. The newest system has expanded the traditional framework of the designated school change system to meet the needs of both schools and users. However, as several processes are imposed to verify the reason for choosing the school, the number of people who actually choose the school has decreased to about 10% under the latest system. It indicates the loss of the competition principle for school to improve educational quality in order to get new students.</p><p>Second, it was indicated that the impact caused by abolition of the school choice system mainly appeared on parents, community, school budget and personnel affairs. Many students had used the school choice system in Suginami, where the impact of its abolition appeared in budget and personnel affairs. In Kanazawa on the other hand, the changes after its abolition appeared clearly on community and parents. And some educational policies such as the community school and the continuity from primary to secondary education work instead of school choice system. These alternative policies are going to make up for the function of "Checks and Balances" and "The catalyst of the school improvement" at which a school choice system aimed.</p>
