Abstract

Numerous rotational and vibrationally stimulated Raman emissions can be generated based on four-wave Raman mixing, when a continuous-wave laser is focused into a hydrogen gas contained in an optical resonator. A train of stable optical pulses are generated by phase locking the emission lines. The repetition frequency is in proportion to the Raman shift frequency, and a mode-locked laser with an infinitively-fast repetition rate can be realized in the optical regime using the vibrational mode of hydrogen.
