The purpose of this paper is to clarify the characteristics of inequality of careers from the 1920s to the 2010s. There are almost not papers that analyze long-term changes in careers using seven SSM surveys career data. We examine the change of career from the 1920s to 2010s while referring the researches of lifetime employment system and dual structure of labor. Our research shows the following findings. First, the inequality of careers become smaller until the early 1970s, and bigger from the late 1970s. Second, the employment become stabilized until the early 1970s and make unstable from the late 1970s. And the career of the workers in large company and the white collar workers are stable throughout the era. Third, the pattern of careers is affected with father's job, education, first job and scale of first job's company. Especially, the impact of scale of first job's company becomes bigger after Asia-Pacific War. According to the above results, From the 1920s to the early 1970s, by Japanese social system's change the career became stable. And as spreading the lifetime employment system, the career become more stable until the early 1970s. But after the late 1970s, the unstable careers increase and the divide between stability and instability of career is becoming greater.
