Abstract

In the present study, an online survey was conducted on outpatients with chronic diseases to assess their evaluations of the SPD system, the level of the prescribing medical institution and dispensing pharmacy, and their intention to revisit and receive prescriptions. Data from 1,952 patients were collected. Structural equation modeling was then conducted to determine the patients’ evaluation factors, behavioral intentions, and overall satisfaction with the SPD system. The results showed that pharmacies had a higher degree of influence on patients’ overall satisfaction than medical institutions. Regarding the overall satisfaction with the prescribing medical institution and dispensing pharmacy, only the influence from the pharmacy to the medical institution was significant. Moreover, the bi-directional impact of the prescribing medical institution and dispensing pharmacy on the patients’ intention to revisit was significant. Furthermore, overall satisfaction affected medication adherence in the order of medical institution and prescribing pharmacy, but the degree of influence was low for each factor. Regarding the SPD system, the degree of influence of overall satisfaction with the dispensing pharmacy was significantly higher than that with the prescribing medical institution. In addition, pharmacy services were found to complement the patients’ evaluations of the medical institution, and the influence of the behavioral intention to revisit and SPD evaluations suggested that patients are recognizing the usefulness of the SPD system.
