Abstract

<p> A simple method for evaluating the density of tsunami inundation water is developed for the advancement of the tsunami load and historical tsunami scale evaluations, which is characterized by the point discussing in the cross-sectional average concentration of sediment contained in the inundation water and the total sediment without dividing into the bed load and the suspended load. In the development process of the method, the frictional resistance law for the inundation flow (unsteady flow) under the movable bed condition is discussed and an evaluation example of the frictional resistance coefficient for the inundation flow is shown, using the data obtained by the previously reported experiments. The frictional resistance coefficient is about two times on average, compared with that for the steady flow under the movable bed condition. The proposed method could be applied to other inundation flows such as a river inundation flow if the experiment (or field survey) to measure (or estimate) the cross-sectional average concentration of sediment (∝ the denshity of inundation water) is carried out.</p>
