Abstract

Influence of the tsunami inundation water density ρ and wave period T on the tsunami load (horizontal force Fx and vertical force Fz) on RC building is examined through a small-scale hydraulic experiment using inundation flow with and without sediment for the advancement of the tsunami load evaluation. Although the experimental cases used the inundation flow with sediment, and the comparison and examination method for the results obtained by the experiments used the inundation flow with and without sediment are limited, it is verified that the tsunami load on the building depends on the inundation water density and wave period, and is revealed that when the inundation depth h at the front of the building or the ratio (=h/incident inundation depth hi) is the same, (1) the horizontal force increases regardless of the wave period as the inundation water density becomes high and increases reaching a limit gradually as the wave period becomes long, (2) the vertical force increases in case of a long wave period and could decrease depending on the state of the sediment deposit around the building in case of a short wave period as the inundation water density becomes high.
