Abstract

This study investigated longshore sediment transport and its mechanism based on experiments and numerical calculations using the cicular wave basin. Experimetal results showed that the offshore sediment transport was dominant until the stable wave field including breaking wave was attained, then the longshore sediment transport was dominant near bar in the vicinity of the breaking point. Numerical simulation results indicated that the longshore current was developed by the trapped flow due to interaction of incoming wave and return flow. Though the observations in the present study, it was revealed that the effectiveness of the circular wave basin to investigate longshore sediment transport, in which the effect of termination of longshore motion of flow and sediment due to side wall, although the size of the wave basin used in this study was small.
