- Observing How Japanese Language Learners with High Reading Comprehension Skills May Reconstruct and the Logic of an Essay
抄録
In academic writing, questions are answered logically with objective reasoning. However, with essays, with the great variety in structure and jumps in development, the author's main point and reasoning can be more difficult to understand. Three Japanese language students with high reading comprehension skills were asked to read an essay using the read and think aloud method and to write a summary of it. As a result, as the students read, they were able to identify the difficult sections and inconsistencies of the text and then corrected them their summaries, suggesting that if they accepted the main premise, the inconsistences and jumps were admissible.
