Abstract

<p>The plastic hinge length is one of the important factors to evaluate the ductility of reinforced concrete columns that fail in flexure at the bottom by seismic load. This paper presents the analytical studies on buckling of longitudinal reinforcement in jacketed columns through FEM analyses and compares with the result of jacketed column loading tests. In the analyses, the effects of resistance of cover concrete wrapped by carbon fiber sheet or steel plate against buckling are examained. Furthermore, the simplified procedure to evaluate the plastic hinge length of jacketed reinforced concrete columns is proposed based on the analytical studies on the buckling of longitudinal reinforcement with taking account of the inelastic behavior.</p>
