Abstract

Recent advances in the satellite remote sensing techniques used to evaluate coastal environments and the associated issues are described. The main test sites were located in Mikawa Bay in Aichi Prefecture, Lake Shinji in Tottori Prefecture, and Lake Nakaumi in Shimane Prefecture. Specifically, high temporal resolution chlorophyll a estimation using GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager)data obtained with the COMS(Communication Ocean and Meteorological Satellite), high spatial resolution sea surface temperature estimation using land observation satellite“Landsat-8”data, and assessments of algal bloom distribution based on super high-resolution satellite“QuickBird”data are introduced.
