<p>Hydrophilic surface repels oil droplet in water. Superhydrophilicity can be obtained on titania (TiO2) surface after ultraviolet irradiation. Regular titania structures can be produced by hydrothermal synthesis. This study aims to propose a patterned hydrophilic/hydrophobic surface produced by patterned hydrothermal synthesis. Titania nano-rods were synthesized on a fluorine tin oxide (FTO) substrate because its lattice constant is similar to that of titania. Titania layer of 3.6 μm thick was synthesized leaving star-like profile on the substrate to generate driving force to repel the spread oil droplet. The characteristic was confirmed by measuring sliding angle of oil droplet in water. It was found that sliding angle decreased to 15 degrees and the droplet floated in water while sliding angle was unmeasurable in other conditions.</p>
