Abstract

This paper reports on the production of nanofibrous materials from a nozzle-less electrospinning method, named "Electro Bubble Spinning", and their applications as air filters and iPS (induced pluripotent stem) cell culture scaffolds. Electro bubble spinning enables the mass production of nanofibers by stirring the spinning solution with compressed air, resulting in the improvement of the productivity as compared to the nozzle method. We could produce the very thin air filter with high collective efficiency and low pressure drop using electrospun nanofiber diameter with 80nm and polyolefine paper as the substrate of nanofiber. On the other hand, natural polymer nanofibers are known to have potential as a cell culture scaffold. Among them, electrospun gelatin nanofibers are expected to be used as iPS cell culture scaffolds for regenerative medical applications. We succeeded in producing gelatin nanofibers at low cost and high productivity. Using this gelatin nanofiber substrate, biological tests of its application for a cell scaffold for tissue engineering are under way.
