Abstract

数学的モデリングによる現実問題の解決活動に取り組むプログラムは,既にオランダ,ドイツ,オーストラリア,米国等の欧米を中心に実施されているが,それらは対象生徒の年齢やレベル等,様々である。ここでは,筆者らが進めている日本での数学的モデリング・チャレンジプログラムの試行的な段階として,中学生に実施した理科的問題の解決学習について,その内容と生徒の反応,そこから考察されたことを報告する。教材としては,「斜面を転がる台車の運動」を扱い,中学3 年生の有志を対象に,課題に取り組ませた。その結果,モデリング課題として今回の理科的問題が有効であることが分かったが,一方で,現実事象の場面で生じるさまざまな条件や不確定な数値を考慮に入れ,柔軟に考えるモデリングスキルが不十分であることも分かった。また,このような取り組みを通して,既習の関数式の枠にとどまろうとする傾向から生徒が脱皮することに繋がり得ることも示唆された。

The programs dealing with the application of mathematical modelling to the solvingactivities in real-life problems have been conducted mainly in the United States, Australia, and severalEuropean countries such as Holland, Germany and so on. The students who have participated in theseprograms vary in age, academic ability, and other things. This present program deals with a solvingactivity in scientific problems for junior high school students. It was carried out as the trial step of themathematical modelling challenge program we have been carrying forward in Japan. In this thesis, wereport the content of this program, the feedback from the students and what we gathered from it. "Themovement of a cart rolling along the slope" is taken up as a teaching material and some third-yearstudents at junior high school (ninth graders) tackled it. As a result, it turned out that these scientificproblems were effective as the mathematical modelling challenge. But, on the other hand, it wasconfirmed that Japanese students lack modelling skills in thinking flexibly considering the variousconditions and uncertain numerical values arising from complicated real-life problems. At the sametime, it is suggested that the activity like this can foster the students' attitude to try to find answersfrom a broader point of view instead of just staying within the area of functional formulas which theyhave already learned.
