Abstract

This paper describes a brief explanation of dielectrophoresis (DEP) and its application in the field of life science. DEP is an electrokinetic motion of a dielectric particle under the non-uniform electric field. Most of the bio-related materials, including cell, virus, DNA, and protein, can be manipulated by DEP since they are dielectric. In the application, DEP is mainly used to collect, separate, or characterize the target. As the examples of the application of DEP, we show our methods of rapid and easy measurement of bacteria and DNA.
