Abstract

This study aims to clarify the development history and characteristics of the eco-neighborhood in France through the analysis of European contexts and domestic French circumstances. The eco-neighborhood in Europe, which originated from environmental technology-led neighborhood projects in Northern Europe, developed under the sustainable city policy in Europe and encouraged its emergence in France. According to domestic French circumstances, neighborhood project was considered an important means by which regional issues could be resolved, and the practices for global environmental considerations were integrated into it. The French national government provided various support programs and promoted continuous initiatives at the regional level. Thus, this study shows that the eco-neighborhood in France emphasizes the consideration of regional characteristics and socioeconomic aspects.
