Abstract

Tsunami evaluation by submarine landslides at nuclear power plants has been performed by restoring the traces of past submarine landslides. On the other hand, tsunamis due to submarine landslides expected in the future probably occur on unstable slopes other than the existing landslide sites, and in order to guarantee future safety of the power plant, in addition to the conventional evaluation based on traces, the assumed landslide tsunami should be included in the evaluation. This study proposes an empirical model of the submarine landslide parameters for the 100 km radius area of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, as well as an efficient method to evaluate the future submarine landslide tsunamis by identifing the area where the submarine landslide tsunami has a large effect on the power plant and performing the three-dimensional slope stability analysis and detailed tsunami simulation using two-layer shallow water model.
