Abstract
<p> To develop a tidal/ocean current generator in Tsugaru strait, we investigated the feasibility of power generator with “flaring flanged diffuser” to compensate for insufficient flow velocity in summer duration and to perform stable power generation. Effects of the “flange” on rotational speed of a turbine was verified by model experiment in which flow condition was reproduced as Tsugaru strait in summer season. As a result, it was found that the “flange” brings high rotational speed of a turbine. Especially, high rotational efficiency was obtained at optimum flow velocity. In addition, electrical power efficiency was verified by electrical experiment with dedicated equipment. Based on the experimental results, the quantity of power generation in actual coastal area was estimated.</p>
