<p>This paper presents a fundamental study on a novel conveyor mechanism using wave propagation mechanism for granular materials. The conveyance of such materials (e.g., soils) is a key technology for unmanned excavation and subsurface access on the moon. This study proposes and develops the conveyor mechanism combining the mechanical wave propagation units which consist of a helix and links via free-rotational joints. The developed mechanism achieves internal conveyance of the materials like intestinal peristalsis. Feasibility of the proposed mechanism is validated by experiments. The experimental result confirmed that the developed mechanism is feasible for horizontal conveyance of the granular materials. The experiments also showed that the conveyance amount for one wave-period is constant with the wave propagation speed. In contrast, it is found that the conveyance amount is affected by some physical properties of the granular materials.</p>
