Abstract

Problems associated with population decline, such as lack of human resources, are currently causing serious issues in rural Japan. On the other hand, an increasing number of people living in urban areas are interested in living in the countryside, which is referred to as “Return to Rural Living,” and some migrate and start a business in these areas. Based on location patterns, this study determines what kind of spatial conditions are important when starting a business. The results reveal that entrepreneurship has been occurring even in places that are generally considered unfavorable to starting a business.
