Kambala's Sādhananidhi ("An Ocean of Sādhana Practices") is a commentary on the Herukābhidhānatantra, the oldest tantra (compiled sometime between the 9th and 10th centuries) of the Buddhist Cakrasaṃvara (or -śaṃvara) tradition. Its 8th chapter expounds the four maṇḍalas consisting of deities who are anthropomorphized transformations of the four major mantras of the Cakrasaṃvara tradition. This paper presents the first critical edition of the Sanskrit text of the 8th chapter of the Sādhananidhi and its tentative English translation. The closest texts are the 37th, 51st, 52nd, and 59th chapters of the Abhidhānottaratantra (compiled around the 10th century). The teaching of the four maṇḍalas in the Sādhananidhi was composed earlier than the teaching in the Abhidhānottara.
