抄録

Measurement of road surface friction coefficient while driving is required for improving advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). ADAS uses information obtained from wheel speed sensors, acceleration sensors, etc. However, it is difficult to measure the road surface friction coefficient accurately in real-time with these sensors. Therefore, various studies focus on a tire that is the only part contacting a road surface, use a tire as a sensor measuring road surface friction coefficient. These studies mainly estimated road surface conditions with the deformation or vibration waveform of the bottom of a tire. However, due to the bottom of a tire is easy to deform locally, it is difficult to build a measurement system of tire deformation behavior. This study proposes a method to measure road surface friction coefficient in real-time with strains induced on the side of a tire, which is stably detected, and verify the usefulness of a method by using an experimental apparatus capable of simulating complete slip driving.
