Abstract

Photoluminescence-based glow-in-the-dark materials, also called long-persistent luminescent (LPL) materials can store absorbed photon energy and emit light for long periods. Currently, LPL materials are made entirely of inorganic materials. Inorganic LPL materials have good luminescent properties, but require various fabrication processes because of their insoluble crystalline properties. In contrast, organic LPL (OLPL) systems made by organic electron donors and acceptors do not require any rare metals and can form a transparent and flexible film using a solution process. In this paper, the fundamental emission mechanism and molecular design of OLPL systems are described. We also introduce the application of the stable charge-separated state for photo-stimulated luminescence.
