Abstract

The objective of this study is to verify the relationship between the layout of stone roof storehouses and the microclimate of the settlement in Tsushima Island, Japan. Climatic conditions were observed in Kuneinaka settlement in winter of 2015, 2016 and 2018. For the most part, winds in the settlement came from between southwest and west, and sometimes northeast winds were observed. The group of storehouses called “Koya Yashiki” is located on the southwest side of settlement. As a result of the observations, it is confirmed that the group of storehouses stand to windward side of stronger wind when the seasonal prevailing wind blow in winter. There is a risk of fire spread on stone roof storehouses located along Kune River, because they stand to leeward side of the seasonal prevailing wind in winter. These storehouses stand to windward when northeast wind blow, and there corresponded with the area of stronger wind. The risk of fire spread on storehouses located on the north area along the mountain is low because there is an area of weak winds. It is clarified the relationship between the layout pattern of stone roof storehouses and the local wind climate in the settlement.
