Abstract

<p>While some-registered-citizen guardians are hesitant to accept the guardianship, a questionnaire survey was conducted to ask the citizen guardians who are supervised by guardianship organizations to give free comments on their guardianship activities. The results were analyzed qualitatively to clarify the actual guardianship activities and issues encountered on a day-to-day basis. Further the results were divided into three categories:“the current state of citizen guardianship activities,” “the systematic development of citizen guardianship activities,” and “the outlook for citizen guardianship projects.” Additionally, five subcategories were generated:“decision-making support for wards,” “difficulties in citizen guardianship activities,” “challenges in citizen guardianship activities,” “requests for support for citizen guardianship activities,” and “prospects for future citizen guardianship projects.” Some of the respondents felt that there was a lack of support for the guardianship system in the following areas:support for the guardianship supervisory organization, awareness of the system, remuneration for the guardian, support for the citizen guardian’s own life stage, and the protection of the privacy of the citizen guardian. These issues are important for the promotion of citizen guardianship activities.</p>
