Abstract

Olfactory dysfunction is one of the early symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders. There is considerable evidence that olfactory testing is useful in early detection of cognitive loss in neurodegenerative diseases. Olfactory function tests used in Japan and the other countries are described. Decrement of olfactory identification ability is a characteristic of neurodegenerative disorders. It is seemed to be useful to indicate an increase in dissociation of cognition threshold and detection threshold by T&T olfactometry. Newly developed olfactory identification tests are also useful for the discovery of cognitive disorders.
