Abstract

This paper introduces the University of Tokyo’s efforts in educating researchers about research ethics. The University of Tokyo has made various efforts in response to the social demand for “accountability in scientific research”. With regards to “research ethics education”, the “Code of Conduct for Scientific Research at the University of Tokyo” was established in 2006, and the “Research Ethics Action Plan” was put into effect in 2014. Particularly with regards to the Action Plan, efforts have been made to foster a sense of research ethics by specifically indicating effective matters that should be addressed in order to raise the awareness of research ethics and preventing misconduct. All members of the University of Tokyo need to make continuous efforts in order to generate autonomous and creative wisdom by legitimate means and methods and to promote intellectual activities with high ethical standards that contribute to society.
