Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine why married women resign their post and chose to work at home in Tokyo metropolitan area using questionnaire survey. There has been a great discussion about the aging society with decreasing population in Japan. Incorporating job seekers into the labor market, especially married women have become an essential consideration. However, many married women find it difficult to leave the house for work because of housework and child–rearing. In this respect, telecommuting allows women to remain at home and communicate with their employers by information communication technology (ICT). Furthermore, the new ICT will enable the married women to keep on working as telecommuters. This study tries to analyze in the perspective of the women’s life stages and residential relocations.
